Albert "Jay" Burkett

Albert “Jay” Burkett, 90, passed away Wednesday May 28, 2025 in Graham . Funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday June 3, 2025 at Morrison Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Pioneer Cemetery.

Jay was born August 22, 1934 in Graham to the late Maggie Lee (Worsham) Burkett and Albert Jasper Burkett. After high school and college he joined the US Army and served two years. Jay was retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone as a switch technician after 39 years. Jay returned to Graham in 1998 from Abilene, where he became President of the Old Post Office and Museum. Jay was a member of First United Methodist Church in Graham. He enjoyed collecting antiques and was a dealer. Jay enjoyed going to horse races, casinos, and hunting. He was big into sports following the Graham Steers and Lady Blues. He was an animal lover of all kind and was known to be the wild animal whisperer, he would have them eating out of his hand in no time.

Survivors include; wife, Martha Burkett of Graham; daughter, Kelley Burkett Tomerlin and husband Terry of Weatherford; son, Clint Burkett and wife Crystal of PK Lake; twin sister, Joy Kelley of Wichita Falls; step-son, James R. Scott and wife Rachel of Springfield, MO.; four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; four great grandchildren, two step-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Jay was preceded in death his parents, two brothers, Robert and Jack Burkett and a sister, Frances Wilson.

The family wants to thank Chandra “Little Bit” Weber and the staff of Beyond Faith Hospice for their care and compassion.

Visitation will be Monday June 2nd from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home.
