Alma Joan Andrus

Alma Joan Andrus, 84, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026, in Graham, Texas. She was born on January 11, 1942, to the late Mary Alma (Roberts) Toon and Charles Kelvy Toon.

Joan grew up in the small town of Fancy Farm, Kentucky. Her family were tobacco farmers and members of the St. Jerome Catholic Church, where she also went to school. She was the youngest of fifteen siblings, surrounded by a loving, and ever-expanding circle of family, including numerous nieces and nephews. After High School, Joan attended the Ezell Beauty School in Murray, Kentucky, a path that fit her perfectly, because she had a gift for making people feel beautiful.

In 1960, Joan married Larry Andrus of Mayfield, Kentucky and they made their journey from Kentucky to Texas, first calling Wichita Falls home. In 1975, they moved their family to nearby Burkburnett, Texas where they raised their children. Joan continued her gift of being a hairdresser where she adored her clients, and they adored her. She later retired from the JCPenney salon, and eventually moved to Graham, Texas, to be closer to family.

Joan was a much-loved lady with a big heart and a wild spirit and extraordinarily devoted to her kids. She was funny, honest, and unforgettable, the kind of person who could make you laugh even on a hard day. She cared deeply for everyone, believing that every person deserved kindness and acceptance in her world.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Alma and Charles Kelvy Toon; and her siblings: Earl Toon, Allard Toon, Rudy Toon, Pius Toon, Bertram Toon, Orelia Stamper, Ella Mae Turner, Catherine Toon, Virgina Emerson, Mary June Toon, and Sister Mary Alma Toon.

She is survived by her brother, Larry Toon and wife Pat of Fancy Farm, Kentucky, and her sister, Anna Rose Buckman of Fancy Farm, Kentucky; her son, Dewayne Andrus and wife Malinda of Ivan, Texas; her daughter, Valerie Albert and husband Joel of Allen, Texas; her grandchildren, Madison McKnight and husband Kyle, and Cade Albert; and her great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Leighton, Holton, and Hallie McKnight, each one a source of immense pride and joy to her.

We will celebrate Joan Friday, February 20, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at The Alley House, behind 434 Oak Street in Graham, Texas. We welcome all friends to join us, share stories, laughter, food, and the fellowship she always valued so deeply.
