Austin Bruce

Harold “Austin” Bruce, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2025 in Richardson, Texas at the age of 93. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 9 at 10:00am at the Pioneer Cemetery Gazebo in Graham, Texas. Arrangements will be with Morrison Funeral Home.

Austin was born January 31, 1932 in Bryson, Texas to the late Thomas Marvin, Sr. and Ivy “Myrtle” (Box) Bruce as the youngest of six children. Austin graduated from Bryson High School and Ranger Junior College and was a school athlete in both football and basketball. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served two years during in the Korean War. In December 1951, Austin married Ritta Ann Knight and they settled in Graham, Texas. For most of his career, Austin specialized in selling concrete and cement products for Halliburton, Trinity Cement, and LaFarge. His occupation led to relocating to Ardmore and later Wichita Falls, but they returned to Graham in 1976 and lived there until 2003. In late 2003, Austin and Ritta decided to make the “Big Move” to Frisco, Texas to be near their daughter and her family. They enjoyed spending time with the grandkids and traveling in their motorhome to bluegrass festivals. Sadly, Ritta passed away in August 2021 just a few months before their 70th wedding anniversary.

Survivors include daughter Allison and her husband Doug and grandchildren Chance, Macie, Kasey and Hayley. Uncle Austin always enjoyed visiting with his dear nephews and nieces.

Austin was preceded in death by his son Kerry Michael Bruce in 1977. In addition to his parents, Austin was preceded in death by all his siblings: Adelaid Bruce, Juanice Horton-McFall, Marvin “Junior” Bruce, Mary Jo Swetnam, and Gene Bruce.

Austin’s final resting place will be at Pioneer Cemetery next to Ritta and their beloved son Kerry.
