Donald Ray Hall, affectionately known as Donnie “Punkin” by those who knew him best, was born on October 26,1951, in Clifton, Texas. He passed away in Olney, Texas, January 20, 2026 where he had resided for several years. Don was born to the late Mary Alice Hall Sedberry and was also lovingly raised by his aunt and uncle, the late Frank and Orene Hall, who played a significant role in his upbringing. He attended public schools in Clifton, Texas, and graduated from Clifton High School. At an early age, Don accepted Christ and was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church in Clifton, Texas. Don excelled in athletics, particularly football, during his school years. Later in life, he continued his love of sports by playing softball for the local communities in which he lived. It was something about his personality that earned him the cherished nickname Donnie “Punkin,” a name spoken with affection throughout the Clifton and surrounding communities.
In adulthood, Don moved to Graham, Texas, where he lived for several years. He worked a variety of jobs, including truck driving, serving as a prison guard at Brackenridge Prison in Breckenridge, Texas, and later as a jailer at the local jail in Graham. Don had a deep love for riding motorcycles, driving trucks, and a strong interest in guns, hobbies that reflected his independent and adventurous spirit. Don later moved to Olney, Texas, where he lived until his passing.
He leaves to cherish his memory his sisters: Carolyn Lindley of Arlington, Carla Coleman of Wichita Falls, Dorene Sedberry of Houston, Lydia Vaughan of Wichita Falls, and Marchella Hopwood of Denton; one brother, Hugh Bates (Rhonda) of Frisco; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Don was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Alice Sedberry, and stepfather, Carl Sedberry; his guardians, Frank and Orene Hall; his sisters, Estella Davis, Lavera Leggett, and Suzanne Sedberry; and his brothers, Richard Sedberry, Carl Bernard Sedberry, Shirley M. Sedberry, and Lenwood Bates.
Don will be remembered for his love of motorcycles, guns, family, and the many lives he touched along the way.
