Dorothy Samford Veal of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. Graveside funeral will be 12:00 Noon Saturday August 16, 2025 at Pioneer Cemetery in Graham.

Dorothy Lee Armstrong was born on January 18, 1932, in Graham, Texas to P.J. and Willie Opal Armstrong. Dorothy married Billy Rex Samford on July 10, 1949. They had three sons together – John, Billy and Tracy. Dorothy worked at the Young County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy as well as their office manager. She also worked in the Graham Police Department.

Dorothy and Rex moved from Graham to Mineral Wells, Killeen and Sherman as part owners of the radio stations in each of these cities.

Billy Rex Samford passed away in February 1977. Dorothy continued her accounting career working for Oilfield Brake Rims in Fort Worth, Simpsons Lighting in Arlington and Consolidated Exterminators in Fort Worth.

Dorothy married John R. Veal on September 10, 1988. Dorothy and John lived in Burleson, Granbury and finally settled in Weatherford, Texas.

Dorothy was always a devoted member of the Church of God in each city where she lived. She loved playing piano, teaching Sunday school and serving as a Sunday school secretary for the churches.

Dorothy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Survivors include; son, John Rex Samford and wife Pam, of Scottsdale Arizona; stepdaughter Paula Ellis and Husband Steve, of Vicksburg, Mississippi; stepdaughter-in-law Debbie Veal, of Azle, Texas; granddaughter Miranda Rexanne Samford, of Arlington, Texas; granddaughter Rachel Samford Cohen and husband Jordan, of Marble Falls, Texas; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, P.J. and Willie Opal Armstrong, sister, Vera Irene Armstrong, brothers: Billy Armstrong and spouse Myrtis, Louis Armstrong and spouse Bernice, Gene Armstrong; sons; Billy Samford and Tracy Samford; son-in-law, David Veal; husbands: Billy Rex Samford and John R. Veal.

The family appreciates the nurses, aides, residents and administrative staff of Stonegate Nursing Center in Fort Worth, Texas where Dorothy lived for seven years.
