Fred Herring

James Frederick (Tex) Herring, 87, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2025 in Graham. Funeral service will be held June 6th at 2:00 pm in Morrison Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Pioneer Cemetery.

Fred was born February 16, 1938 in Graham to the late Oliver Andrew and May Belle Ann (Mayes) Herring. He married Margaret Webster July 6, 1964 in Gourock, Scotland. Fred was a veteran of the United States Navy.

He worked for Control Data Corporation and for Johnson Control. Fred was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Graham. He loved music and was in several choirs throughout his life and was a member of the New Ground Men’s Singing Group. He played the piano and guitar, and wrote several songs. He loved to do wood working projects and other crafts. He was a family man and enjoyed spending time with his wife, his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include: wife, Margaret Herring of Graham; daughter, Cindy Morrison and husband, Raymond of Arden, North Carolina; son, Scott Herring and wife, Julie of Denton; grandchildren, Craig Morrison, Matthew Morrison, Sarah Wolf and husband, Nathanael, David Herring and wife, Cara, Amanda Herring, and Caitrina Herring.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Herring.
