Upon retirement, they moved back to Graham where she enjoyed her retirement in the community that she loved so much. She was an avid supporter of Graham High School athletic teams, and loved the Texas Aggies, the alma mater of her father, O.B. Rose. Before suffering a stroke in 2015, she was the treasurer of Meals on Wheels and was active in the Graham Hospital Auxiliary and her childhood church, the First United Methodist Church.

Gwen enjoyed reading, being outdoors, travelling to watch her grandchildren in athletic events and interacting with friends on Facebook. In retirement, she was blessed to be able to enjoy her grandchildren and great grandchildren, to whom she was affectionately known as ‘Granny’.
