Harold Lee Whiteley, 77, of Providence Village, Texas, passed away at his home on Thursday, April 30th.
Born on August 5, 1948, in Graham, Texas, Harold was the son of Arthur Wiley Whiteley and Cecilia (Boisclair) Whiteley. He was raised on the family farm in Proffitt and at Fort Belknap, where his parents served as park caretakers. He graduated from Newcastle High School in 1966, where he lettered in football, basketball, and track and was actively involved in student life and extracurricular activities.
Harold married his high school sweetheart, Linda Day, on December 27, 1969. He went on to attend the University of North Texas, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1970 and a Master of Science in 1972. In 1995, he fulfilled a lifelong goal by earning his doctorate in Higher Education from the University of North Texas—an accomplishment he held with great pride.
He began his coaching career in Newcastle in 1970, later continuing in Munday and Argyle ISD through 1977. During his years as a teacher and coach, Harold made a lasting impact on the students and athletes he mentored. Over the years, he continued to take on a variety of roles across sales and marketing.
Harold lived a life marked by resilience, strong convictions, and a deep love for his family. His journey was not without its challenges, but through it all, Harold loved in a big way. He was a man full of ideas—always thinking, always sharing, and always hoping for more.
He found his greatest joy in supporting his children and grandchildren. Whether sitting in the stands or watching from home, he rarely missed an opportunity to cheer them on. His family was his proudest and most meaningful accomplishment.
Harold was a believer in Christ who knew the Word and held firmly to his faith.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Day Whiteley; his sister, Jody Bray of Rancho Santa Fe, California; his children, Kevin Whiteley of Shamrock; Jason Whiteley (Donisia) of Cleburne; Brian Whiteley of Aubrey; and Kristen Turner (Morgan) of Glen Rose. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Justin, Tyler, and Aaron Whiteley; Jordan Wasilewski;Kade, Max, Gavin and Grace Whiteley; Addison and Brooks Treppa; and Abbie, Peyton, and Corie Turner; as well as his great-grandchildren, Thea, Teresa, Reece, Allie, and Braxton Whiteley; and Havyn Wasilewski.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Wiley Whiteley and Cecilia Elizabeth Boisclair Whiteley; his brother, Arthur Wiley “Butch” Whiteley Jr.; and his daughter-in-law, Terri Whiteley.
