Hugh Edward Stroud, 79, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at his home in Graham. Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 2:30 PM in the First United Methodist Church.
Hugh was born June 3, 1944 in Teague to the late Zack Allen and Verna Mae (Manahan) Stroud. He graduated in 1962 from Haltom High School in the Fort Worth area and was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Vietnam War. Hugh married Carolyn (Stewart) Steele on February 25,1984 in Graham, Texas. Shortly after his marriage, he joined the United Methodist Church and sang in the choir. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 2002 after 36 years as a mailman.
Hugh loved life and enjoyed meeting and helping people whenever he could, spreading joy and fun along the way, especially during his 38 years as a member of Graham Evening Lions Club. He served as governor of Lions District 2E1 during 2010-2011 and continued to be active long after that. He was also a member of the Graham Regional Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary.
Survivors include: wife, Carolyn Stroud of Graham; daughter, Sara Hill of Crane and husband Eric; sons, Paul Stroud of Katy and wife Jennifer, Benjamin Stroud of Denton, and Zack Steele of Austin and wife Ashley. Also surviving are brothers and sisters-in-law: John and Verla Stroud of Chandler, Laythan and Nancy Stroud of Denton, and Sid and Jill Stroud of Holly Lake Ranch. His six grandchildren: Claire Duncan (daughter of Paul and Jennifer), Brinlee and Natalie and Braxton Hill (children of Sara and Eric), and Alice and Annie Steele (daughters of Zack and Ashley).
Memorials may be made to Graham Evening Lions Club Scholarship at P. O. Box 411, Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville, First United Methodist Church Choir Scholarship, or a charity of your choice.
