James Alex Dooley, 88, passed away Monday May 11, 2026 at his home near Possum Kingdom Lake. Graveside funeral will be 10:00 a.m. Friday May 15, 2026 at Veale Creek Cemetery in Stephens County. Family Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday May 14, 2026 at Morrison Funeral Home.
Alex was born January 28, 1938 in Graham to Lela Mae (Stringer) Dooley and Clarence Calvin Dooley. He grew up and lived his entire life in the Veale Creek and Possum Kingdom area. He attended school at Bunger and Graham, graduating from Graham High School in 1956. Alex married Nancy Sue Eddleman November 14, 1959 in Newcastle. She preceded him in death December 2, 2006. Alex provided for his family by working on ranches and in the oilfield. His true love was cattle ranching and in his later years, he rarely missed the Monday sales at the Graham Livestock Commission where he enjoyed companionship with his “Second Family”.
Survivors include; three sons, Mike Dooley and wife Edie of Graham, Jeff Dooley and wife Tonya of Breckenridge, Chuck Dooley and wife Vanessa of Breckenridge; grandchildren, Kelsey Smith and husband Colby, Bradley Dooley and wife Nicole, Austin Dooley and wife Morgan, and Butch Calvert; several great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
Alex was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother Bobby Clarence Dooley, sisters Elsie Thomas, Maggie Lay, and Anna Lou McKee.
