James Ray Potts

James Ray "J.R." Potts, 84, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2020 in Graham.  Graveside services will be Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 11 am in Cottonwood Cemetery in Jack County.  Visitation will be Friday, August 7, 2020 from 6:30 -7:30pm. Arrangements are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home. 

 

J.R. was born October 6, 1935 in Bryson to the late Hugh Densmore and Ada Ainsworth Potts.  He married Reta Flowers June 12, 1957 in Graham and she preceded him in death June 3, 2019, he was a member of the First Baptist Church.  J.R. was a man of many talents and worked the majority of his life for the State of Texas as a Cattle and Meat Inspector, but his first love was horses and horse trading. He spent many years volunteering with the local 4-H horse program, preparing the arenas for horse shows and rodeos and helping the kids with their horses. He always had time to help his friends with horses, vehicles or whatever they needed and always had cold beer in the barn fridge and story to share! He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather and loyal friend. He will be missed!

 

Survivors include; Sister, Virgie Young and husband Sterman of Post. Daughter, Deborah Grubbs and husband Bert of Sanger; grandchildren, Brian and Sophie Grubbs and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents Hugh D Potts and Ada Ainsworth Potts, and three brothers, Vernon Potts, C.L. of Jacksboro, and Weldon of Graham.
