James Michael Washburn of Graford went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, August 10, 2026. Celebration of Life will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday August 29, 2026 at Morrison Funeral Home Chapel in Graham.
While his family grieves his passing, they rejoice in knowing he is whole, and with his Lord.
Michael was born on July 5, 1949, in Greenville, Texas. He attended grade school in Wichita Falls, before graduating from Rider High School. Following graduation, he accepted a scholarship to Austin College, where he played college football until he was sidelined by an injury.
Michael chose to leave college and pursue a lifelong career in construction, building high end luxury homes throughout the state of Texas. He finally settled into the Possum Kingdom area, where he constructed over 200 new homes in Palo Pinto and Young counties. Michael retired from the construction industry in 2025.
He loved the outdoors, spending time with family on Possum Kingdom Lake, boating, fishing, and outdoor activities. He especially enjoyed spoiling his beloved dog, Pecos.
Michael was an active member at Westlake Chapel Church on Possum Kingdom Lake, where he served time as a Deacon for the church.
He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather, as a great friend and a humanitarian. All that knew him understood what a kind heart he had, and how he would do anything for anyone. He always wore a smile and genuinely loved life. He lived a wonderful, rich life to the very end.
Preceded in death by his parents John Knox Washburn and Mary Ruth (Howell) Washburn, as well his brother, John Howell Washburn
