Janice Glazner

Janice Glazner (Cypert) passed away on April 7, 2023 in Graham, comforted by her strong Christian faith, surrounded by family, and with her husband, Jeff Glazner, at her side.

She was born on July 4, 1939, near Munday, Texas, to T.B. and Anna Belle Cypert. During her school years, she lived with her family in Jal, New Mexico and then in Anson, Texas, where she graduated from high school. She married Anson native Jeff Glazner on June 15, 1957. They began their lives together in Abilene, and subsequently lived in Sweetwater, Floydada, and Eastland. Ultimately, in 1972, they settled with their four sons in Graham.

Janice was a remarkably loving, accomplished person. She was the cornerstone in the lives of her husband and her four sons, and she radiated warmth into the lives of relatives, friends, and eventually, students. She worked for several years as a teacher’s aid, and in 1983, at the age of 44, she began coursework toward a teaching degree at Midwestern State University, driving round-trip from Graham to Wichita Falls five days a week. She finished in three years, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1986. She taught initially at Shawnee Elementary and, for many years, at Woodland Elementary. Janice was Graham’s Elementary Teacher of the Year for 1998 – 1999, the first year the award was given. For the 2004 –2005 school year, she received the Achievement Award from the Mu Lambda Chapter of the teacher’s honor society Delta Kappa Gamma. During her twenty five years of teaching, she was affectionately known to her students as Mrs. G.

Janice had enjoyed square dancing and playing golf with her husband, Jeff, reading late at night, watching birds and wildlife at home, and visiting with her many relatives and friends. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church. Her generous, open nature was consistently evident. Even when health issues multiplied, she wanted it known that she had had a “fantastic life” because of her husband, her family, her relatives and friends, her beautiful home, and her teaching career. Her contagious warmth lives on in the people who loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents and a sister, La Nelle Shoemake (Cypert). She is survived by her husband, Jeff Glazner, two brothers, Tom (Rosemary) and Ron Cypert, four sons, Greg (Debra Gonzalez), Michael (Sue Zielinkski), David (Cristie Glazner), and Tim Glazner, four grandchildren, Rachael (Bryce Caughron), Jeffrey (Hannah Andritsakis), Emily, and Kaeleigh Glazner, and numerous other beloved relatives.

Visitation will be at Morrison Funeral Home in Graham on Saturday, April 15, from 6 – 8 PM. Services will be at First Baptist Church, Graham, on Sunday, April 16 at 2 PM.
