Bettie Jo “Joie” Mayhugh, 75, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2025 surrounded by her children at her home in Graham. Funeral service will be held Friday, August 8, 2025 at 10 a.m. at Oak Street Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
Joie was born February 10, 1950 in Graham to the late Cecil Edward and Margaret Irene (Steadham) Dixon. She married H.L. Mayhugh April 18, 1980 and he preceded her in death October 25, 1989.
Joie was raised in Graham alongside her sister and many cousins. She learned to cook at a young age, which later in life became a passion that founded her catering business. She enjoyed the outdoors, lake life and gardening. She even owned her own florist. Joie was a travel enthusiast, making sure she took her kids and grandkids all over the country.
Joie embraced motherhood wholeheartedly, devoting her time and homemaking skills to her children. She was an active member of Oak Street Baptist Church, teaching Sunday school, cooking for Agape and being on the finance team. She loved her church family. When she wasn’t volunteering, she was at a grandchild’s sporting event or school activity.
Survivors include: daughters, Stephanie Singleton of Graham and her children, Weylin, Zackary, Jacob, Madalin, and Mollie Singleton; son, Jason Henry and wife, Vanessa of Decatur and their children, Paizlee and Lando Henry; daughter, Natasha Birdwell and husband, Blake of Graham and their children, Evaline, Caroline, and Katherine Birdwell.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret “Tear” Ellyson.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Open Door Christian School.
