Joseph "Pete" Gursky

Joseph "Pete" Gursky, 72, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2023 in Springtown.  Pete will be laid to rest in a place of honor at his family ranch in a private cemetery surrounded by the animals he loved on the ranch that was his happy place.

Joseph Peter Gursky was born in Fort Worth, Texas on April 6, 1950 to William Gursky and Jane Gursky. He had 4 siblings that enjoyed a loving, God centered household. He was a member of the Texas Boys Choir and recalled thrilling moments singing with some of the famous singers of the time when they would visit and perform in Fort Worth. He graduated from Pascal High School. He met the love of his life and wife of nearly 53 years, while working at Swift and Company. He married Linda Jean Sturdevant Gursky on November 6, 1970. That union produced one son, Kevin Paul Gursky. As a family they founded Gursky Horse & Cattle Company which has produced a foundation of champion bloodlines horses in (Bryson) Jacksboro, Texas.

Pete, as he was known to his friends and family, worked over the years with Waples Platter, White Swan and retired from Ben E. Keith on January 1, 2020. He was a great singer and square dancer with Beachcomers and Travelin Funtimers holding office with the Funtimers. Pete was well respected and admired by everyone that knew him. The word that has been used most to describe Pete was "Great". He was a great mentor, great husband, great father, great Papaw and great man. His love for God, his family, his animals and his country was evident in the way he lived every day of his life.

Pete is survived by his wife, Linda Gursky, his son, Kevin Paul Gursky and his wife, Krista Michelle Gursky, both of Jacksboro, Texas. Two granddaughters, Annalyse Grace Gursky, age 2 and Linnea Jean Gursky, age 4 months. Nephew, Ryan Gursky, niece, Shelly Walentiny and younger sister, Linda Sue Haley of Virginia, with her kids, Rachael Haley and Will Haley.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Carol Ann Murray and Alexis Jane Gursky and brother, William Gursky, Jr.
