Larry Rodgers

Larry Wayne Rodgers passed away Thursday, June 8, 2023 in Wichita Falls, Texas.

The son of Richard Dewey Rodgers and Julia Iris (Evans) Rodgers, Larry was born January 11, 1953 in Graham, Texas and spent his life in and around Graham. He had an older brother James Richard Rodgers and a younger brother Robert (Bobby) Thomas Rodgers. A member of the 1971 graduating class from Newcastle High School, Larry went on to play football for two years at Tarleton State University.

While raising his family, Larry worked for most of his life in various roles in the oil and gas industry, focusing especially in the auction business, which led him on many travels throughout the United States and Canada. Married on April 6, 1974 in Iowa Park, Texas to Vickie Lynn Mason, he and Vickie enjoyed a 49-year marriage, full of hard work and adventures.  Together, they raised four children: Eric, Alicia, Amy, and Amber.

Larry was a great lover of the human spirit. He made friends wherever his travels took him and could often be spotted sitting in a bar or restaurant talking to a perfect stranger, telling a story, or listening to theirs. Larry enjoyed the music of his youth, and the dial of his radio could often be found on Sirius XM’s Deep Tracks or talk radio as he traversed American highways.  He enjoyed watching his children, and later grandchildren, play various sports and engage in activities. He was very proud of their many achievements (and even their losses).

Beyond this, Larry enjoyed an eclectic collection of everything from records, neon bar signs, various license plates from states that he had traveled through, and Coca-Cola memorabilia. His backyard bar contained many of these objects that helped tell his stories, and was home to his beloved cats and dogs that he loved.

Larry was a kind and generous man, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He worked hard to provide for his family and loved ones, and quickly made friends. He will be sorely missed by those who loved him, and they will continue to carry him in their hearts and stories.

Larry is survived by his wife Vickie Rodgers of Graham; his four children: Eric Rodgers & wife Amy of Graham; Alicia Underwood & husband Jabe of Navarre, Fl; Amy Stewart of Graham; and Amber Davidson & husband Jacob of Midland; older brother James Rodgers & wife Laura of Waco;  thirteen grandchildren: Wesley Rodgers & wife Emily, Macy Hall & husband Charles, Hannah Hackler, Emmy Rodgers, Halle Black, Sam Rodgers, Joshua Davidson, Sophie Rodgers, Rhianna Stewart, Ansley Davidson, Asher Rodgers, Layla Stewart, and Eliza Rodgers; and one great-granddaughter: Frances Rodgers.  In addition, he was honored to consider Chris Hall, one of Eric’s best childhood friends, as a son and lifelong friend.

He was preceded in death by his mom and dad, Richard and Iris Rodgers, and his younger brother, Bobby Rodgers.

The visitation will be on Wednesday, June 14 from 6-8 pm at Morrison Funeral Home. The funeral will be on Thursday, June 15 at 2 pm in the Morrison Funeral Home Chapel.
