Lou Boyer Jennings passed away peacefully on December 16 at her home in Madison, Miss. She was born on November 2, 1930, in Bedford, Texas, to Jessie and Simon Boyer.
She is survived by three daughters: Linda Precht (Dave), Gayla Stone (Bill) and Laura Meyer (Jim); sister Jan Montgomery, eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Frank L Jennings, and son, David Jennings.
Lou graduated from Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas, in 1952 with a degree in home economics. After graduation she moved to Graham, Texas, where she had spent the previous summer working as a home demonstration agent. During that summer she met Frank Jennings, a young attorney in Graham, who became the love of her life. They married on June 15, 1952.
Graham was a welcoming community for Lou from the very start. She quickly joined bridge groups and supper clubs and made lifelong friends. She also felt it was important to give back to the community. Lou was a civic leader in Graham with many leadership roles over the years. Among them, she served on the Graham General Hospital board and chaired the Graham Hospital Auxiliary cookbook committee.
A faithful Christian, Lou taught Sunday school and was a Vacation Bible School leader at First United Methodist Church of Graham. In later years, she served alongside her husband Frank in the Stephen Ministry, providing spiritual and emotional support for individuals in crisis situations.
She played an active role in the lives of her children. A skilled cook and homemaker, she left an inspiring legacy of hospitality. She loved welcoming friends into her home for everything from a Christmas open house to Longhorn watch parties.
Lou enjoyed needlepoint and created many exquisite pieces treasured by family members. She also shared her talent with the church by needlepointing altar cushions.
After her husband Frank died, Lou moved to Montgomery, Ala., close to daughter Linda Precht, where she led an active life and continued her love of travel.
Since 2006 Lou has lived in Madison, Miss., near where her daughter Gayla Stone lives. She made many friends there at St Catherine’s Village and enjoyed frequent visits from family.
A family graveside service will be held in Graham, Texas, on January 9, followed by an 11 a.m. memorial service at First United Methodist Church in Graham.
Her family is grateful for the care she received at St. Catherine’s Village in Madison. Memorial donations may be made to the Mustard Seed (https://mustardseedms.org), a Christian community for adults with developmental disabilities.
