Malcolm McNair Stewart

Malcolm McNair Stewart, native son of Graham, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, December 15th 2009 at the age of 84 in Graham. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 16th from 5:00 to 7:00pm at Morrison Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Thursday, December 17th at 2:00pm in the Pioneer Cemetery. The family will receive guests afterwards at the family home on 900 Kentucky.

Born in Graham, on October 19th, 1925, Mr. Stewart was the fourth child of Graham Preston Stewart and Mamie Blount Stewart. A great grandson of Gustavus Adolfus Graham, Mr. Stewart loved and valued his unique relationship with the land of his ancestors.

Mr. Stewart graduated from Sewanee Military Academy in 1943 and entered Millsaps College as part of the Navy's program for pilots. He completed his degree at the University of Texas at Austin where he met his wife Doris Ramsey.

In 1948 Mr. Stewart married Doris Ramsey of Beaumont, Texas. They began their life together on the Stewart Ranch near Las Vegas, New Mexico. In 1957, Mr. Stewart moved his family back to Graham, taking up the reins on Stewart Ranch in Young County, Texas. He was instrumental in the founding of the Stewart Mineral Corporation.

In 1959, Mr. Stewart was elected to the First National Bank of Graham Board of Trustees where he served until 1999. Over the years he participated in many service and civic organizations, he was an avid pilot, horseman and fly fisherman. He was a life long member of the Holy Spirit Episcopal Church. Among all of these things he was an utterly devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Mr. Stewart is preceded in death by son, Malcolm M. Stewart, Jr. and grandson Scott O. Shannon IV. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Doris Ramsey Stewart and three daughters: Graeme Stewart Shannon of Fort Worth, Texas, Carol Stewart Waldrop and husband, Phil of Houston, Texas and Anne Stewart Youngblood and husband, Nathan of Santé Fe, New Mexico. Survivors also include 6 grandchildren, Stefanie Shannon Nielson and husband, Kent of Dallas, Texas, Carolyn Shannon of Fort Worth, Texas, Philip Waldrop of Phoenix, Arizona, Justin Waldrop of Austin, Texas, Emily Waldrop of San Marcos, Texas, Stewart Youngblood of Stanford, California and one great-grandson Malcolm James Nielson of Dallas, Texas.

The family would like to give special thanks to the personnel of the Graham Regional Home Health and Hospice - Linda Armstrong, Traciey Pruitt, Barbara Hall, Shelly Walls, Hollis Howard, and especially to Malcolm's devoted caregiver, Enedina Castro and Mary Castro, for the kind, tender-loving professional care provided to Malcolm during the last years of his life. The family would also like to thank Dr. Pete Brown and Kevin Miracle for their support of Malcolm and his family.
