Martha Harris Gilliam

Martha Harris Gilliam, age 86, passed away on May 20, 2023 to join her husband, Glyn, and other missed loved ones. Marty was born on February 11, 1937, in Teague, Texas to Buck and Lois Harris. She had an older sister and brother, Erna and Billy and a younger sister, Molly. Her parents and all her siblings predecease her. 

Marty graduated from Teague High School in 1955 and married Johnny Glyn Gilliam on August 2, 1958. She and Glyn were together for 62 years before his passing on August 3, 2020.  With the birth of her first grandchild on their anniversary, she was thrilled to become a Nonnie. 

They had a daughter, Jill in November 1959 and a son, Russell in July 1962. Their family lived in Marlin, Eastland, and Ranger before moving to Graham on December 30, 1971. Each home always included at least one dog and a cat, as she loved all animals. She lived in Graham for almost 50 years before moving to Abilene to be closer to her daughter. 
 
Marty is survived by her two children and their families. Jill and husband, Robert along with their three children. Son, Will of Abilene, son, Ross, and wife, Shaye Anne of Burleson with their three sons, Hudson, Knox, and Krew, daughter, Abby and her husband, Bryan of Fort Worth with their daughter, Maddie Claire, and a baby boy due in the fall.
 
Her son, Russell of Cleburne, along with his son, Matt and grandson, Cameron, also of Cleburne and Russell‘s stepdaughter, Alexandra, and son Cassion of Austin.
 
She’s also survived by her last pet, an elderly cat, Zoey, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. 
 
A graveside service (her choice) will be May 23, 2023 at Union Cemetery in Freestone County next to her husband, Glyn. Any memorials can be sent to First United Methodist Graham where she was a member for 51 years or the Humane Society of Young County.
