Maurine Pevehouse McCluer went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, January 15, 2024 at the age of 103. She was born on February 11, 1920 in Jermyn, Texas to Walter L. and Ida Mae (Streun) Pevehouse. Maurine was saved at the age of 12 in the Jermyn Baptist Church and was baptized in Camron Creek by Rev. P.J. Harmonson. She graduated as valedictorian from Jermyn High School and attended Texas Women’s University. Maurine married Kenneth McCluer in Jermyn, Texas at the home of her parents on July 27, 1938. He preceded her in death on June 28, 1997 after 59 years of marriage.

Maurine was a faithful and active member of the First Baptist Church of Graham, Texas. She taught various Sunday School classes in the Loving Baptist Church for twenty-two years and the King Daughter’s Sunday School in Graham First Baptist for thirty eight years. She also taught Sunday School Study courses in various Baptist Churches in the association. She was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union, holding various offices teaching mission books and was associational President. Maurine was the travel Tour Director for Graham First Baptist Senior adults for ten years. The senior adults blessed and enriched her life as they enjoyed their seventy-four trips together. She was also president of the XYZ, a senior adult organization of the church, for many years and a member of the Prime Time singers for twenty eight years. Maurine worked as secretary and bookkeeper for Texas Consolidated Oil for three years and twenty-eight years for B.F. Allison Companies, all oil related. She loved genealogy and did research on her paternal and maternal side of the family as well as her husband’s side. She was a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and was recognized as being from one of the first families to enter Texas. She was a member of the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Club, Community Concert, Women’s Club, and Young County Historical Society.

Maurine is survived by her son, William K. “Bill” McCluer Jr. and wife Lynda of Graham; three grandchildren, Mike McCluer of Memphis, TN, Leanne McCluer of Dallas Texas, and Cherri Tuel of Graham; great grandson, Tyler Tuel and wife Kelli of Graham; and great great grandson, Tate Tuel; along with several nieces and nephews including Charlene Shepard of Graham.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Bobbie York, and brother David A. “Bill” Pevehouse, and great great granddaughter Tatum Tuel.

Memorial may be made to First Baptist Church 620 Fourth St. Graham, TX 76450 or a charity of your choice. The family will receive friends from 5-7 at Morrison Funeral Home on Thursday, January 18, 2024. Services will be 10am Friday, January 19, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Graham. Burial will follow in Loving Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
