Norman Rickey Hatfield

Norman “Rickey” Hatfield, 65, of Graham, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2025. Funeral service will be held Friday, November 21, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Westlake Chapel on Possum Kingdom Lake. Burial will follow at Veal Creek in Stephens County.

Born August 19, 1960, in Jacksonville, Florida, Rickey was the son of Richard Louis Hatfield and Mary Eloise Hatfield. From childhood he displayed an extraordinary gift for drawing, effortlessly creating everything from cartoons and hot rods to detailed portraits that captured the hearts of those who saw them.

Rickey proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1984 to 1986, receiving an honorable medical discharge. For more than 35 years he worked as an over-the-road truck driver, logging countless miles across the nation and beyond. He cherished the open road, the ever-changing scenery, and the opportunity to sample cuisine from every corner of the world. With his warm smile and easy manner, Rickey never met a stranger.

A passionate collector, he treasured an eclectic array of keepsakes—cups, pens, knives, oil-and-gas stickers, and countless other mementos that told the story of a life richly lived. In his later years, after an oil-field accident more than a decade ago left him immobile, Rickey became a legendary figure among delivery drivers thanks to his enthusiastic Amazon shopping. Packages arrived so regularly that the carriers knew him by name and were always greeted with his trademark cheer.

To his sisters, nieces, and nephews he was simply “Uncle Rickey,” the one who greeted each of them with an affectionate “Kiddo” and left behind a treasury of hilarious stories and cherished memories. His love for his family was boundless, and theirs for him was equally deep. He will be remembered as truly one of a kind.

Rickey was preceded in death by his father, Richard Louis Hatfield; his brothers, Ronnie Lynn Hatfield and James Robert “Robbie” Hatfield; and his niece, Erika Renee’ Pena.

He is survived by his loving mother, Mary Eloise Hatfield (Carl) of Graham, Texas; his daughter, Leslie Marie Hatfield of Odessa, Texas; his sisters, Sherrie Renee’ Hatfield Edwards (Kenny) of Odessa, Texas, and Cynthia Lynn Hatfield of Midland, Texas; his niece, Heather Lynn Edwards (Sam) of Tuscola, Texas; his nephews, Richie Wade Edwards (Lisa) of Graham, Texas, Erik Rey Pena (J’Shon) of Midland, Texas, and Eron Robert Pena (Tamira) of Odessa, Texas; twenty beloved great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of cousins and friends who will miss him dearly.

Uncle Rickey’s laughter, generosity, and unmistakable spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. He was, and always will be, one of a kind.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
