Marion was born July 12, 1932 in Wentworth, Van Zandt County to the late Thomas Jefferson and Maud Tramel Foster. He graduated from Canton High School and left the Canton area to find work in Wichita Falls and eventually Fort Worth. He worked for Lone Star Gas and was later hired by Western Electric as a station installer. He worked primarily in the Fort Worth area but he traveled to many small towns in Texas to work as well as out-of-state to Iowa, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts. He retired in 1995. He was also a proud member of the Communication Workers of America Local 6201.

In 1958 he met his future wife, Linda Freeman, a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell. They married on January 31, 1959 in Fort Worth and celebrated their 64th anniversary earlier this year.

In their life together they collaborated on remodeling houses, working alongside craftsmen to develop and improve their own skills.

Marion was a veteran of the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 and served in a unit stationed in Alaska.

After retirement, he became active in the Graham community where he and Linda had made their home. He served from 1999 to 2004 on the board of the Young County Historical Commission. He also served from 2005 to 2009 on the board of the Old Post Office Museum. He served as a Freemason in both Fort Worth and Graham and was a member of the Lions Club.

He and Linda also enjoyed traveling, often with family or close friends. They made several trips to Canada with one taking them from British Columbia to Nova Scotia. He also enjoyed gardening, hunting and general tinkering.

Survivors include: wife, Linda Foster of Graham; daughter, Leslie Jan Foster-Sen and husband, Joydeep of Houston; son, Jodie Randall Foster and wife, Christine of Fort Worth; granddaughters, Ajita Hanel, Amara Sen, and Aleia Sen; many nieces and nephews.
