Robert Edmond “Bob” McCluskey, Jr., 95, passed away Monday, May 29, 2023, in Austin, Texas. Bob was born in Graham, Texas, to the late Martha Inez Lamons McCluskey and Robert Edmond McCluskey, Sr. He graduated from Graham High School and then served in the US Army in Japan in World War II. After the war, he attended Texas Tech University and graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He chose Electrical Engineering because somebody told him it was the hardest degree plan. Bob worked as a petroleum engineer until he retired from Amoco/British Petroleum in 1985 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
As soon as he got back from the war, Bob proposed to the only girl he ever loved, Margie Wright. They were happily married for 58 years until her death in 2008. Bob and Margie travelled the world visiting countries all over North and South America, Europe, Asia and Africa. Bob returned from every trip with mountains of slides and lots of stories to share with his family and friends. Bob and Margie had three children, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. They moved frequently in the early years of their marriage, wherever Amoco sent them, but they eventually settled down in Tulsa, Oklahoma for about 40 years. In Tulsa they attended the Memorial Baptist Church and had many dear friends. After Margie died and Bob’s vision loss progressed to a point where he could no longer live alone, he spent the last ten years of his life in Austin living with his daughter and her family. He was affectionately known there to his grandchildren’s friends as “Grandbob”.
Bob was predeceased by his wife Margie and his daughter Susan Rains. He also was predeceased by his three sisters, Virginia Mann, Martha Wilkes and Ann Maxwell. Survivors include his son, Robert McCluskey, III, of Grapevine; daughter, Nancy Green and husband Len of Austin; grandchildren, Leonard Green, Jr. and wife Heather of Grand Prairie, Hallie Green of Austin and Dublin, Ireland, Angela Peugnet and husband Forrest of Houston, and Christopher Rains of Austin; and great grandchildren, Celeste, Tallis and Brynn Peugnet of Houston.
Funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Morrison Funeral Home, 700 Oak St., Graham, Texas. Burial will follow in Pioneer Cemetery in Graham. There will be a viewing, and the family will receive visitors, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on June 10, 2023, at Morrison Funeral Home.
