Ruth Elizabeth Reedy

Ruth Elizabeth Reedy, age 68, passed away in Lubbock on January 5, 2024.  A graveside funeral will be held at Murray Cemetery on Friday, January 19, 2024 at 1:00pm under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.

Ruth was born on January 21, 1955, in Long Beach, California, to Dwight and Ruby (Banning) Michener.  She was the second of three children.  She was a happy little girl and especially enjoyed her days growing up as a child in Shamrock, Oklahoma. Her family then moved to Wichita Falls where she later graduated from Rider High School in 1973.  She then began working and attending Midwestern State University. On June 22, 1973 she was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She was a woman of faith.  She loved the Lord and believed in helping and serving others with a giving heart.

Ruth married her best friend, Steven Reedy for time and all eternity in Mesa, Arizona, on November 12, 1976 and soon began their family.  She loved her children dearly and was so proud of them.  Later she went back to school and completed her Vocational Nursing Degree at South Plains College, working first at hospitals in Levelland and Lubbock, then working at Head Start.  She ended her career working as a clinical nurse.  When the grandchildren came, she was “all in” and retired from her job to be a fulltime grandma. Her love showed no bounds for her 10 grandchildren.  She truly had a heart of gold and was such a caring and giving grandma.  She also was very talented at, and had a passion for genealogy, connecting her ancestral lines back many generations, literally linking thousands of individuals and families.

Ruth is survived by her husband Steven Reedy of Lubbock; daughters, Elizabeth Stephenson and husband Beau Stephenson of Plano, and Emma Reedy of Lubbock; sons, Samuel Reedy and wife Becka Reedy of Lubbock, and John Reedy and wife Mae Reedy of Plano; 10 grandchildren; and brother, Dwight Michener of Vernon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dwight and Ruby Michener; and brother, Johnny Michener.
