Geraldine Sherrub “Sherry” Pettus, 80, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2023 in Graham. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at First United Methodist Church Graham. Burial will follow in Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
Sherry was born May 3, 1942 in Graham to the late Hazel Beatrice “Bea” and Gerald S. “Red” Davison. She graduated from Graham High School and attended Abilene Christian University, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in education. She married Carey W. Pettus on June 26, 1965 in Graham. In 1970, Sherry and Carey welcomed their daughter Heather.
Sherry spent 47 years as an educator, a testament to her true passion for teaching. She was beloved by every student she taught. She had many fond memories of her teaching career and made lifelong friendships with her fellow teachers. Sherry was known as the “Garage Sale Queen” and never passed up a good deal. She was even known to buy back some of her old treasurers! She enjoyed wine nights with her friends and being with her family. Her granddaughter and great grandson were the apple of her eye, always bringing a smile to her face. She was an avid jewelry lover and never had enough. Those who knew and loved her will miss her laughter, wit, and caring, giving nature.
Survivors include; daughter, Heather Lindley and husband Kary of Graham; brother, Larry Davison of Freeport; sister, Marilyn Garretson of Katy; brothers-in-law, Kent Pettus and wife Nancy of Graham, Sherrill Pettus and wife Jennifer of Graham; sister-in-law, Jo Ann Thetford of Graham; grandchildren, Madelyn Figy and husband David of Dallas, Kacey Wakefield and husband, JD of Graham, and Jeremy Lindley of Graham; great grandchildren, David Figy III, Tera Wakefield, Major Lindley and many loving nieces and nephews.
Sherry was preceded in death her husband, Carey W. Pettus.
Memorials may be given to Young County Humane Society, 120 Craig Street, Graham, Texas 76450.
The Family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home.
