Stanley Hopkins Peavy Jr. was born in 1934 in Graham, Texas. His father, Stanley H. Peavy, Sr., Little Crab, Tennessee, and his mother, Ivy G. Straw from a pioneer family in New Hampshire who eventually settled on the banks of The Leon River, Gatesville, Texas, met when they came to teach school in Graham. They married in 1925.
Stanley graduated from Graham High School, received his B.A.A. degree from Southern Methodist University where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He received a Masters of Liberal Arts from Texas Christian University and also attended T.C.U.’s Farm and Ranch Management program.
Stan is survived by his wife Sandra of 63 years, children Hon. Stan Peavy, III, Richard, Brian, and Cecilia, seven grandchildren, Emily, Preston, Phillip, Stanley IV, Ivy, Erin, Mia and five great-grandchildren, Merrick, Heath, Anders, Bennett and Amelia. Also, a brother-in-law, Richard Williams, Weatherford, Tx and children Robby, Danny, and Amy, a sister-in-law Kathy Justice Nelson and children, Todd, Jackie and Paige, cousins Dr. Joel Peavyhouse, Franklin, Tennessee, children Rachel and Paul, cousin Dr. Arthur Wilson, Flagstaff, Arizona, children Albert, Alexandra and James, cousins Rindy Traft and Nan Rinker, Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, and numerous nieces and nephews, Shiela Straw Stewart, Burnet, Texas, Dr. Henry Straw, Jr., Colorado Springs, Colorado and son Michael, cousins Cynthia Jarrett and children Parker and Chase, Hazel Arthur, Midland, Texas.
Stan had many interests and hobbies and was involved in numerous professional, civic, community, and church activities. He served 65 years in Lion’s Club of Graham, operated a Real Estate and Insurance Agency over 40 years in Graham, Director on Board of First National Bank Graham 1967-2005 and served as Chairman of the Board, served on Boy Scouts Fund raising for 8 West Texas counties, Lay Minister of Catholic Diocese of Ft. Worth 1990, advisory board of Catholic Charities, Wichita Falls, Tx, amateur radio operator, member of Knights of Columbus Council 1967-2005, member of Sons of American Revolution, amateur magician and mentor of students at North Central Texas College, Graham, Tx.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Methodist Health System Foundation, 1441 North Beckley Ave, Dallas, Tx. 75203.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday March 16, 2026 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1218 Rodgers South, Graham, Texas 76450.
Interment will follow at Pioneer Cemetery, Graham, TX.
