Tom Dechairo

Thomas Carl “Tom” Dechairo, 88, passed away Friday, January 2, 2026. A Memorial service will be 4:00 p.m. Saturday January 10, 2026 at Morrison Funeral Home Chapel. Tom’s ashes will be interred in Westmoreland, Kansas on his family’s lot.

Tom was born August 5, 1937 in Girard, Kansas to the late Margaret Virginia (Roberts) Dechairo and Dr. Thomas Dechairo. Tom received his Master’s of Education Degree from Emporia State University. He spent most of his life teaching science and coaching in Newton, KS., Rotan, TX., Hamlin, TX., Lockhart, TX., Graham, TX., and Bryson, TX. Tom coached for 25 years and taught for 30 years, then substituted for 32 more years. Tom married Lynne Gordon July 11, 1979 in Lockhart. He and Lynne moved to Graham in 1981 from Lockhart. Tom was a former hospital administrator of Dechairo Hospital in Westmoreland, KS. for several years. He was a member of Heritage Methodist Church in Graham, Texas State Teachers Association, and Good Sam RV Club.

Survivors include; wife, Lynne Dechairo of Graham; son, Timothy Dechairo; daughters, Cherise Travis and Nikki Herrington all of Wichita, KS.; stepsons, John Steckel, Jr. of Kismet, KS., and Matthew Steckel of Rossville, KS.; stepdaughter, Kathleen Cole of Dodge City, KS.; brother, Roger R. Dechairo; sister, Joyce Stember; 29 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren also survive.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Dr. Douglas Dechairo.
