William Frederick Poland

William Frederick Poland, 78, was born on May 4, 1947, in Knoxville, Tennessee, to Eston and Etta Lou Poland.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army, including a tour in the Vietnam War. Following his military service, William spent most of his life working in the oilfield industry, where his strong work ethic and determination eventually led him to start his own business, Fred’s Equipment.

He was married to Amanda Maddox, with whom he built a family and shared many decades of life. Though they later chose to separate, they continued to hold respect and appreciation for one another. In later years, he met the love of his life, Nadine S., who preceded him in death.

William loved the outdoors, hard work, and most of all, his family. He treasured his grandchildren and was especially fond of his youngest great-grandchild, Tripp. He recently found so much joy in listening to him talk and watching him grow.

He was a member of Cross Timbers Church whenever he was able to attend. When he could not be there in person, he remained devoted in his faith by reading God’s Word for the Oil Patch and his Bible.

Known for his quick wit and unmistakable sarcasm, William always shot it straight. He valued integrity, honesty, and hard work, and those who knew him appreciated his direct nature and steady presence.

He is survived by his son, Williams Poland of Conroe; his sister, Helen Taylor of Sunset; his granddaughter, Cherisa Black and husband Jackie Black of Fort Worth; his grandson, Michael Poland of Wichita Falls; his granddaughter, Denise Verastigue of Wichita Falls; his granddaughter, Britnie Brock and husband Brad of Graham, Texas; and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Sid and Dee Poland; his daughter, Sharon Timmons; his son, E.D. Poland; and the love of his life, Nadine S.
