Lanny Ray Bilbrey passed away August 29, 2020 in Dallas at the age of 67. Graveside Service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at Rock Cemetery in Granite, Oklahoma.

Lanny was born September 26, 1952 to Haskell Edward Bilbrey and Thelma Ruth Allen in Altus, Oklahoma. He attended Mangum Public Schools, graduating in 1970 and attended Panhandle State University for a short time before deciding to head home to farm with his dad.

Lanny worked as a kid for his dad on the family farm. He was a field mechanic for an oil and gas company, later owned a café and an H & R Block Tax office before retirement.

Lanny spent most of his young adult life in Dumas, Texas where he married and had 2 children. In his later years he moved to the Dallas/Fort Worth area and in 2018 he moved to Graham, Texas to be with his daughter Beth and her family. Lanny loved sports! He enjoyed playing them, watching them on television and cheering on his 3 granddaughters. He played adult league softball, coached Pee Wee Football, Babe Ruth baseball and YMCA basketball. The “Boomer Sooners”, Boston Red Sox and of course, the Graham Lady Blues, were his favorite teams.

His family would describe him as fun, generous and loving. The grandkids, cousins, nieces and nephews adored him. Lanny also loved his little dogs. He loved taking country drives and stopping for ice cream for himself and his little dog.

Lanny is survived by his daughter Beth and husband Corey Gober of Graham, TX., his granddaughters, Ryan, Kate and Addie Gober, sister Linda Carlton of Orange, VA,; brothers Danny Bilbrey and wife Tonya of Dumas, TX, Terry Bilbrey and wife Betty of Lubbock, TX and sister Tammy Currie and husband Bob of Amarillo, TX, numerous nieces, cousins, family and friends.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the nurses, doctors and staff of UT Southwestern Clements Hospital and to our dear friend Ann Sappington who helped Lanny get on his feet when he lost his son, and for the love and care she gave to his daughter Beth and her family.

Lanny was preceded in death by his parents, his son Bradley “B.J.” Bilbrey and nephew Brian Bilbrey.

Memorials can be made to the Rock Cemetery Association, 301 East Hahn, Granite, Oklahoma 73547 or your local Humane Society.
